Avoiding Unsolicited Internet Advertising

If you are annoyed by the increase in internet advertisements there are numerous ways you can reduce the internet advertisements you see and those internet ads that op up in front of you when you are working or browsing.

First, if you do not have a pop-up blocker and/or you are not using a virus scan program, you should buy one online or in an electronics or office supply store right away. The best kind of protective software products are those you can buy through an online subscription because they will constantly update the software on your machine while you are online and protect you from internet advertising.  

Often, these internet ads contain spyware and malware that may corrupt, damage or destroy your computer or use personal information from your internet browsing habits to flood you with email marketing and advertisements in hopes you will buy products or services. 

These programs also include pop-up protection but your browsers and email service provider also provides pop-up blocker software. If you enable this software or choose the option to turn it on, the pop-up and pop-under blocker will eliminate the messages that jump in front of you.  

These messages can be triggered when you visit a particular type of site or when you type in a particular keyword in a search engine. The company will try to anticipate the kind of product or service you want to buy or your personal interests and will then offer even more pop up messages containing internet advertising.

If you do not disable the pop-up advertising you will find yourself awash in these internet ads and it will be nearly impossible to get anything done while you are online.  

Some email services providers and browser company also provide online advertising banners that will display when you are reading email or browsing on the internet. Some allow you to turn off these internet ads so they do not display on your machine. Even if you do not mind the advertisement, you may want to disable these messages anyway since they are usually animated – in order to get your attention – and they will slow the loading process for email messages and search results. 

You may never be able to turn off all internet advertising but you can significantly decrease the number of these internet ads and the annoyance factor by using the tools provided by virus scan and firewall software and by using the utilities offered by your email and browser service providers!
